2024 Sustainability Report
Goal: To successfully work with HSC’s Steering Committee to produce a 2024 Sustainability Report demonstrating the most up-to-date aims for diversity, resiliency, and environmental sustainability.
Research:
To create an updated HSC sustainability report, Bellwether PR worked with a steering committee of Hemlock engineers and designers to establish a timeline and outline for the report, as well as anticipated contents and projected goals. The Hemlock engineers based goals for the report off a 2020 Materiality Assessment Output and the existing 2022 report, which identified which key issues are the most important for HSC’s future health. With these aims in mind, the team worked to determine waypoints in 2024 that demonstrated progress toward and attainment of the company’s sustainability goals. Bellwether also met with Hemlock employees at all levels to gain insights on diversity, community engagement and more to gain a better understanding of how HSC was engaging these areas in its sustainability efforts.
Action Plan & Communication Overview:
Bellwether worked with the Hemlock Semiconductor (HSC) team to develop an updated 2024 Sustainability Report. This report provided an opportunity for HSC to gain a deeper understanding of where it excelled and where it needs to put increased focus to build a more resilient, equitable and more environmentally sustainable society. This report identifies progress on HSC’s voluntary commitments that are guiding sustainability efforts going forward, including reducing HSC’s carbon footprint by 30% by 2030 and developing additional diversity, equity and inclusion strategies that would lead toward greater sustainability. When Bellwether joined the HSC Steering Committee, we pulled together a creative strategy that included consultation and strategy, content creation and design development. Bellwether team members contributed to the development of and strategy behind the 2024 Sustainability Report, including providing additional details around messaging and goal strategizing and helping HSC to decide which goals to lift and highlight.
Evaluation:
- Campaign goal: After delaying the launch of its sustainability report by a week due to a visit from Vice President Harris for an on-site tour, HSC successfully launched the 2024 Sustainability Report in early November 2024.
- Objective 1: Bellwether participated in the interviewing, drafting and brainstorming of content for the HSC 2024 Sustainability Report over a period of 14 weeks in mid 2024, outlining clear aims and progress points for HSC employees on sustainability and diversity goals.
- Objective 2: Throughout the same 14-week period, Bellwether PR worked alongside the Hemlock Semiconductor team to provide feedback and advice on design, information curation and accessibility to create the most effective and information report possible, with the knowledge that this report will serve as the guidepost for sustainability at HSC until 2026 and beyond.
